Not many people know that Bix was actually married, and divorced, before he became an entertainer on the vaudeville circuit. Within Bix's inner circle, it was whispered that "Grandma's Shotgun" is a re-telling of that ill-fated relationship. Bix, as always, denied any personal affiliation--saying "Don't pin it down, man. Don't pin it down!"
